The Strathcona Station is an outstanding example of a Railway Pagoda style building, unique to Canadian Railroad architecture.  The painting depicts the station on a cold January morning towards the end of the steam train era.

Built in 1920, this is the last firehall and bell tower of its era left in Edmonton.  It is shown with a 1942 LaFrance custom 500 parked out front.  The station lives on today as the Walterdale Playhouse Theatre, one of old Strathcona's gems.

The Garneau Theatre and Joan's were both great examples of art deco architecture, a style now synonymous with the "Golden Age" of movies in the 1940's.  The Garneau remains as one of the best theaters of it's time in the West.

The Strathcona Library was built in 1912 and was the first public library in the city.  It was designed in the English renaissance style and became a community centre in the Strathcona area.  Until its redesign the basement was the children's library.

The Post Office and Customs House is a fine example of Edwardian Classical Revival Federal architecture.  Built between 1911-13 on Strathcona's main street, it still remains prominent in the area as the Strathcona Square Market.
